Employed on a contract basis to help develop a demo of the online game Ultimate Galaxy in time to demo it at the 2002 E3 computer show. I wrote most of the back end daemon, written in perl, that controls all the internal workings of the game.

I joined Merilus in 1998 as a junior programmer to work with Perl for the companies web - based security appliance (NICS), but my job quickly grew to include system programming for all aspects of the system, including UI layout, look and feel issues, designing and implementing new features, database interaction. At this time I also functioned as the companies technical support department.
In 1999 / 2000, Merilus experienced a growth spurt, and I became Senior Software Developer. My duties expanded to include a focus on system and network programming in C and the management of a development team consisting of 5 programmers working in Perl, C and Java. While at Merilus I was also very involved with the network and Internet security field, including firewalls, VPNs, and other security technologies.

I started with the FVREB as a co-op student from UCFV and was originally slated for four months of technical support to get the Realtors accustomed to the new dial in BBS system that they had implemented. As it became obvious that I was far more skilled than they originally anticipated, duties expanded to include internal support for staff and on-site configuration and support for the Realtors.
In 1997 I was promoted to the position of system administration and programmer, and my tasks included such duties as doing the programming to turn a painful manual morning procedure into automated luxury, ensuring that the weekly real estate catalogue went out on time, and setting up new programs and procedures,

Solely responsible for the "official fan site" of User Friendly and its accompanying server since 1997. Responsibilities include ongoing maintenance, security updates, system administration, backups, hardware purchase and replacement, user administration, and firewall configuration. The UFies system provides shell accounts to approximately 15 shell users, has approximately 10 virtual web hosts, and provides mail to almost two hundred users in twenty seven mail domains.

Since its inception in February of 1999, this highly successful User Friendly branded personals site has focused on providing a forum for geeks to meet. I am responsible for all the programming and maintenance for the site, done using perl, and helped by the mod_perl and Embedded Perl technologies.
The CIS degree program was designed to give students a wide variety of exposure to the high tech workplace, and supplemented programming classes with courses in business communications, accounting, and systems design and analysis.
Outside of the computer world, I am a sometimes rock climber, burgeoning scuba diver, avid reader and insatiable student of the world.
